Happy Holidays - Happily Ever Avery

It’s Christmas

Christmas morning update:

  • WBC: 9.2
  • Hgb: 8.9
  • Platelets: 42 (expected these to fall drastically which is why she was given 2 bags yesterday)
  • ANC: 1.14 (remember, once these fall below 500 she will be at higher risk for infection; this number is in thousands)
  • Uric acid: 3.4
  • Potassium: 4.1
  • *Phosphorus: 7.0 (this is a new one they will watch through chemo; they retested it already this morning and it has already dropped down to 6.8; if it gets too high, they will add a medicine to keep it under control)

Avery had a 100.4° fever last night, so they took off her mittens and blankets to try to get it down.

It dropped .4° so they gave her Tylenol around 11pm and took a blood and urine culture to make sure there was no infection.

Preliminary results are good and don’t show any infection. Sometimes the chemo itself, or one of the antibiotics she is on, can make her feverish.

She hasn’t had another fever since, and other than being a bit groggy still this morning, she’s in a good mood.

Her Zofran starts at 3:30pm so they can start chemo meds around 4:15pm. This schedule will be the same throughout her therapy.

Nothing has been normal this year, but this Christmas season is nothing we ever could have imagined.

It’s hard to say, “Merry Christmas” when you’re not feeling very merry.

Alas…We do want to wish everything good for you and your family this holiday season.
