We cherish every moment of time we have to spend at home with our sweet girl.
Living life in an average toddler era, where every day’s an adventure, no matter how small. 🏔️
We recently decided it was time to take the gates off the stairs and see what Avery would do.
It was no surprise that she ran straight to them and crawled right up.
That was just a couple of weeks ago. It didn’t take her long to figured out how to WALK up them.🫣
We keep a close eye on her with each step and follow her up, while leading her down.
But, it’s a typical part of toddlerhood.
Conquering stairs. 💪
But for Avery, this—along with so many other milestones—was once a step we would never see.
So, do we still celebrate every little thing with her?

“How is Riley doing?”
We get asked this question often, and I’m always so grateful for it.❤️
Sometimes I feel like our “super siblings” don’t get recognized enough.
These siblings go through so much: fear for their sibling, absence of parent(s), disrupted schedules, stress/anxiety, and the list goes on.😢
For Riley, she spent so much of her time going between hotels, RMHC, our house, as well as their apartment so that we could all help with Avery while she was inpatient.
She, unfortunately, also undoubtedly witnessed our tears and heard us express our emotions at times.
Not to mention, Ry also missed out on most of Avery’s 1st year+ of life.
She went weeks on end without seeing Avery.😭
Again, this is just the tip of the iceberg. And, sadly, some super siblings endure much worse.
But, ever since Avery’s been home, they have been growing closer together.
Avery loves her big sister and they have such a good time playing together (when Avery’s in the mood) 😂
We’re simply thankful that they have this time to bond and make new memories.
Today it was as simple as Ry pushing a bubble lawn mower with Avery following along popping the bubbles. 🫧
It truly is about the simple things.

I could watch Avery play all day.
She is so very curious about every detail.
She has always picked up a toy, turned it over and around, examining every side and angle.🚂
She then decides whether to keep playing with said toy, or to move onto another.
Does she add more toys to the one on front of her, or play with it alone?
Are there other toys similar to it that she can line up with it? 🐄🐖🐑
Does she want to carry this particular toy around all day or trade it for another?
And where does she want to play with it? Her playroom? Our office? The living room? Our bedroom? Or the hallway?
These are her favorite areas of the house. 🏡
With some toys, she “sings/talks” as she plays, while others she plays with in silence.
Some fly (or swim) through the air, while others are pushed along an imaginary road.
Some toys have the honor of being “read” to, while others have the privilege of going to bed with her. 🧸
Finally, her bath toys keep her entertained, as well as comfortable, as she sits in the tub.
Her toys bring her such joy and she reveres them for the happiness they bring her.
As for those of us around her, observing her little mind indulging in play, we have nothing but love and admiration for her curiosity and simplicity.
She is always teaching us something.💛

Avery still only says a handful of words; mostly, Mama, Ma, Papa, go, and no.
You know, the important ones. 😂
But, not being able to TALK (much) doesn’t stop her from communicating.
In fact, she’s been able to let us know what she needs/wants through other means of communication for some time now.
For example:
👂🏻🫷🏻The one she does most often? Cover her ears. If she doesn’t like a sound, wants us to stop talking to her, or has sensory overload, she covers her ears.
🫣when there’s something on the TV she doesn’t like, she runs away, then hides around the corner or behind a piece of furniture, peeking out until it ends
👏🏻she claps her hands for a variety of reasons; demanding, excited, happy, accomplished
🫸🏻 she pushes or pulls us where she needs us to go
👀 she’ll stop and look at you then the ground behind her if she wants you to follow her; and she’ll keep looking back at you to make sure you stay there
🙄 she can get very sassy with just her eyes; closing or rolling them are not unheard of with her 😂
🤗 if she wants to be held, she’ll walk up to you, turn around, and back up to your legs so you’ll pick her up
🫳🏼 she does a lot of “guiding” our hands; mostly when playing with toys or reading books
📺 she’ll look at the TV, then straight into your eyes, then back at the TV, and that means she is wants you to sing
🥰 finally, if she wants to cuddle, she’ll climb up on your lap and cuddle in.
