Messy bun. Having fun. 🤩

This poor girl had a rough week but is finally back to her self.

Two ER visits and a lot of cuddling later, Avery seems to be on the mend.

Today was the first day since last Tuesday that we really saw her, not only up and moving, but TALKING up a storm.

Avery is typically going, going, going—and talking every bit of the way.

I won’t have much to report to her SLP tomorrow since it’s been a quiet week with her, but she’s definitely making up for it today.

Can’t lie though, she lost quite a bit of weight for her little body, but with her appetite increase we hope she’ll put that back on soon enough. 🥺

For now, we’re just so thrilled to have our happy girl back!

Knowing how many challenges they faced together from the very beginning makes their relationship so special.

Ry loves her baby sister and wanted to help take care of her while she was sick.🥹

The good news is that Avery hasn’t thrown up in over 24 hours.

The bad news is she still feels bad.

We haven’t seen much from her today. She just wants to rest on the couch.

She’s taken a couple naps today and isn’t much for eating. ☹️

Hopefully all of the rest she’s getting today will help her feel better tomorrow.

It’s upsetting seeing her so sad. 😞

And for those that saw our story last night about Ry 🤮, she is doing much better today.

She had a slow start to the day but is back to her self—full of energy and talking up a storm.😂

Here’s hoping Avery is feeling well tomorrow!

It’s been a rough day. 🥺

Before falling asleep last night, Avery was pushing on her stomach and saying, “Ow.”

But, she’s also been a bit bloated lately, so we figured it was that again. Gave her meds for it.

About 15 minutes after I laid her down, she sat up and began throwing up. 🤮

After cleaning her up, we got her back to sleep, laid her down again, and it happened once more.

Cleaned her up again and I sat in the rocking chair with her. Until 6am.

I tried to put her down twice, and both times she got sick again.

So, I sat up and held her so she could get some rest.

This morning, she began throwing up again and wasn’t eating.

And since she doesn’t eat a variety of things, Mom was concerned she’d get dehydrated.

So, Mom and Dad took her to urgent care to make sure she wasn’t fighting anything nefarious and didn’t need any fluids.

Fortunately, they said she was okay as far as dehydration, but seems to have caught a bad stomach bug. 😞

She’s only been “sick” a couple times today, but has been pretty low energy and still isn’t eating much.

The doctors told us what to watch for as far as bringing her back in.

Hopefully she feels much better soon and it isn’t more than a 24-hour bug.

When she’s obsessed with clocks, so you buy her one of her own.

And she absolutely loves it! ⏰

She kept trying to find a way to get closer to it.

She walked all around to examine it from every angle.

It’s so fun to experience things through Avery’s eyes.

To see the world as she discovers it.

When you’re comfortable enough with your SLP that you just casually lay down to play. 😂

Avery had her best therapy session yet this morning!

Her therapist was very encouraged and loved all the interaction she had with Avery.

Avery was mimicking what she has seen her SLP do over the past sessions, which means she’s understanding.

She also said a couple words that we have yet to hear:

🐘 elephant
🦒 giraffe
🦁 lion

And, BONUS: she didn’t try to leave early! 😂

We all decided that was a big win today.

Overall she’s doing so well.

Starting next week we’ll combine both speech and feeding into a full hour session, so we’ll see how it goes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

All in all, she had an amazing therapist session.

HAPPY MONDAY!

Whew. Last week was a wild and crazy one.

We had appointments every day, and sometimes multiple ones.

Avery, alone, had 3 appointments on 3 separate days.

BUT, we agreed that those were the appointments we were most excited about! 🙌🏼

We’re still waiting on the full report from both evaluations, but should get them this week.

This week we’ll still have appointments on Tuesday & Thursday, but next week we’ll go down to one day with back-to-back appointments.

Avery still seems to be enjoying her time with the SLP and we’re hoping she is able to build a great relationship with her.

That will help as we move forward with therapy—especially when it comes to getting her to eat.

Anyways, glad this week is a bit more low key for us. 🥴

🖍️ NEW OBSESSION UNLOCKED🖍️

We’ve tried these “water art” notepads before, so decided we’d bring them back out last week.

She instantly became obsessed. So, of course, I ordered her three more. 😂

A few things:

1) You may notice she’s using her left hand. She has always seemed to favor her left, so not too surprising. Papa (also a lefty) loves this! 👴🏻

2) She is all in when she’s coloring. Look at that focus!

3) She has also started coloring one character/object at a time. And she has to get every little bit of it colored before moving on. No ear left dry. 🤣

In other news, she had feeding therapy yesterday but wasn’t much for engaging… yet.

The therapist did tell us that her receptive language skills are definitely there and she does well with them.

That was good news to hear!

We’ll be back for speech tomorrow. It’s a slow and steady process, but so happy it’s finally happening for her.

We can’t wait to hear what she really thinks about everything! 😊

“It’s going to look like we’re just playing, but she’s going to be picking up the skills she needs to eat.” 😊

I’m not sure if I already love Avery’s SLP because of how much she’s already taught us or because of how quickly Avery has taken to her.

Whichever it is, we’re excited to hit the door running! In fact, feeding therapy starts tomorrow and her 1st speech session is on Thursday.🙌🏼

We’ll keep that schedule weekly and see if it needs adjusting later.

For the evaluation today, it was mostly about seeing how much into her personal space she would allow the SLP to come into, and watching Avery eat while she played.

We won’t have the full report for a few days, but we’re eager to read what all she has been able to access thus far.

And, fortunately, Avery seems to be enjoying for the moment. So we’ll take that as a win! 🏆

It was beginning to feel like we’d never get here.

Guess what we did today?!

We had Avery’s speech evaluation 🙌🏼

And it went just as we thought it would.

They confirmed she’s a Gestalt Language Processor and gave us more tips on how to help her at home.

We all gave shoutouts to @bohospeechie and @meaningfulspeech for how much I was able to learn from them.

They said Avery is doing great with where she is (most likely stage 1) and they believe she’ll do well with therapy.

We were just excited that Avery played with them and let them hear some of her words. 😊

We’ve scheduled weekly sessions for now to see how it goes.

Plus, we felt it might be too much to do more than once a week since we’ll also be adding FEEDING therapy! 🤗

I am so excited for this part! She has an evaluation on Monday (same SLP) and we’ll see how that goes.

Plus, they have OT at the same location, so we can get her turned foot/altered gait evaluated as well.

I’m so excited! I reached out to this group back in May and am just glad we were finally able to get her in.

Very much looking forward to learning how we can continue helping her at home and seeing her vocabulary take off! 🚀

Weekends are for spending time with Riley.

With Ry in school, we have to get as much playtime in as we can on the weekends.

I know some of you have asked about Ry recently, so wanted to share a pic of them both.💕

She has been doing so good in school (as we knew she would).

She’s definitely a teacher’s pet and is not a rule breaker by any means.

She is a social butterfly and has had no problems making friends at school.

If you ask her, she made 100 friends the first day and is now up to 150.

We’ve attended 3 events with her at school and it’s obvious she has about that many. 😁

She’s learning to read, seems to love addition, and is so very excited to go to school every day.

It’s an adjustment without her here all day (and quieter without her conversation) but we know she’s enjoying it.

She’ll be 6 next month and is just getting so big.

It’s such a joy watching these two sisters living their best life—together. 🫶🏼
